MACHINE ROOM-LESS ELEVATORS

The latest advancements in technology have paved the way for many possibilities. There is an elevator to suit every need of the customer. An MRL elevator looks like a normal elevator. Their existence dates back to the mid-1950s but has become popular in the 21st century. Machine room-less elevators are those that do not have machine room on the top of the hoistway. They travel at a distance of 250 ft. and can travel at speeds of up to 500 ft/min.

Benefits of Machine room-less elevators

  • It helps you save on costs as they don’t require oil to run they help you save on energy. Machine room-less elevators are hence less expensive.
  • Due to the modernization of lift service, this has been possible to fit directly in the hoistway overhead, helping you save on space. This allows architects the freedom and flexibility to the designer.
  • MRL elevators save building electricity up to 70%.
  • They require less onsite service time when compared to older elevator systems.
  • They are more environmentally friendly than their counterparts. And can easily be customized as per the needs of the customer.
  • It can carry 10-16 passengers and a load of 680-1150 kg.

Drawbacks of Machine room-less elevators

  • Loud noise, vibrations limit usage. When the elevator is running it produces loud noise due to the steel connection.
  • Emits heat - The heat output is quite large, and the ability to withstand the heat is relatively poor. The temperature should not be too high as it may cause “loss of magnetism”.
  • Reduced capacity - It does not have the capacity to carry much load in comparison to its competitors.
  • They require less onsite service time when compared to older elevator systems.
  • Repair and fault not convenient – The maintenance of MRL is not as convenient as MR (machine room) elevators. The maintenance cost is relatively higher. The parts are not readily available for repair and hence malfunction.

They are gaining popularity in mid-rise buildings since they conserve energy and use less room space for installation. You have any doubts about choosing the right home elevators, we would be happy to help.
