GEARED Vs GEARLESS TRACTION LIFT

  • In Geared elevators, the gearboxes are attached to the electric motor and turn the hoisting sheave and move the rope whereas in the case of gearless elevators the gearbox is attached directly to the motor.
  • Geared traction elevators are powered by direct current or alternating current and the maximum speed of the geared traction lift is 500 feet per minute whereas in a gearless traction elevator it is 2000 feet per minute.
  • The advantage of a gearless traction lift installation is that they are reliable and durable.
  • The standing wheel, traction lift maintenance, capacity issues, comfort, energy consumption, traction lift service and capacity issues are some important parameters of geared traction machines and gearless traction machines.
  • The elevator traction machine is of two different types geared and gearless. Emperor Lifts customises types of geared and gearless traction elevator in Bangalore making it one of the best traction lift manufacturers in Bangalore.

Geared vs Gearless traction lift

Standing of the wheel

As with gearless elevators, both geared and gearless elevators are traction elevators. They raise cabins by means of steel ropes passing over wheels connected to electric motors. Geared traction elevators have the wheel above the elevator shaft, while gearless traction elevators have the wheel above the cabin so it moves with the cabin.

Need for machine room

Geared elevators require a machine room whereas gearless elevators do not require a machine room. In order to mount geared elevators, the wheel, the motor, and a machine room need to be located above the elevator shaft. Whereas in the case of the gearless elevators, the wheel is directly attached to the cabin thus there is no requirement for the machine room.

Energy consumption

The gearless elevators consume less amount of energy when compared to geared elevators because there is no gear attached to the elevator. The gearless elevator is efficient and the usage of electricity is less. As the motor gets smaller, other components will also become smaller. This will help solve the efficiency issue and make gearless motors more cost-effective.

Capacity issue and operation efficiency

Elevators with gears can travel up to 152 m per minute, and the maximum height is nearly 75 m, while gearless elevators can travel up to 610 m per minute, and the maximum distance is 600 m. Geared and gearless lifts have nearly equal load capacities which are sufficient for passenger travel. Although the requirements may vary depending on the projects, gearless elevators clearly offer more advantages in terms of speed and travel distance than geared ones. Compared to gearless traction elevators, gearless ones have bigger engines, which necessitates larger combined instruments, making maintenance more difficult. Gearless traction elevators are more advantageous and more reliable when compared to the geared elevators because of their less maintenance.
